Nursing Mother Arrested for Thr0wing 10-Month-Old Baby into R!ver
A nursing mother has been arrested after allegedly throwing her 10-month-old baby into a river, sparking outrage and shock over the disturbing act.
The Delta State Police Command has taken into custody a nursing mother, Blessing Jonathan, on allegations of throwing her 10-month-old baby into a river.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the incident occurred after Jonathan faced constant verbal abuse from neighbors and other women who referred to her child as a “bastard.”
Edafe stated that Jonathan became pregnant but couldn’t determine the identity of her child’s father. Despite facing difficulties, she took care of the baby for 10 months. Unfortunately, ongoing gossip and teasing regarding the baby’s paternity drove her to commit an act in response.
Edafe mentioned that she chose to toss the child into the river in order to avoid humiliation.
Three days following the incident, Jonathan and her aunt went to a local police station to report that the baby was missing. Subsequently, the police received a tip about a baby’s body found floating in the river and took action to retrieve it.
“When the body was retrieved, it was identified as that of the missing child,” Edafe explained. “At that moment, the suspect broke down in tears and confessed to having thrown her baby into the river.”
In a video released by the police, Jonathan is heard explaining that her actions were driven by anger and frustration over rumors about her baby’s paternity.
“The father left us, so it was just my family and me looking after the baby,” she explained. She mentioned that the child’s father is named Mr. Ugo but pointed out that he never introduced her to his family.
“I chose to keep the baby, give it a family name, and raise it with care. However, the relentless judgment and gossip from others eventually made me lose my composure,” she added.
Jonathan expressed regret for his actions: “I miss my baby, and I wish I hadn’t done what I did. It feels like waking the baby would make everything better.”
