The local government councils of Niger State’s Bosso and Paikoro have seized two trucks from the NSCDC’s Niger State Command that were carrying damaged railway rails.
The anti-vandalism section of the corps detained the trucks after receiving reliable information.
The NSCDC’s Niger State Commandant, Ahmed Mohammed Dandare, revealed this to reporters in Minna while discussing the corps’ accomplishments under his leadership.
Dandare says that men from the command stopped a truck with the license number FGE 682 ZS Kano that was carrying railway slippers on Tuesday at Paiko in the state’s Paikoro Local Government Council. They did this after getting a tip.
He went on to say that one of the truck drivers, Ahmed Lawan, 25, of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State, said in his statement that he had been offered a million naira to deliver the goods to Ilorin, Kwara State.
The suspect claimed that N100,000 had already been placed into his account and that the remaining N900,000 was due upon delivery.
The suspect, according to the commandant, also stated that the cash given to him had been used to pay off the people who had blocked the road and prevented the truck from leaving their neighborhood.
Similar to the first truck, another one with the registration number DTM 587 XA Katsina was stopped near the village of Garatu in the Bosso LGA, but the driver fled after abandoning the vehicle.
“In Niger State, we’ll keep a 24-hour watch over all local government buildings. Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the NSCDC Commandant General, has instructed state commandants to deal harshly with any person or group seen damaging public property,” Dandare stated.
