The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) established the Safe Schools Response Squad in Bauchi as part of its efforts to provide a secure and safe environment for instruction and learning in Nigerian schools.

According to our reporter, in order to create a strong, secure learning environment, the Squad will collaborate closely with other security authorities to stop the wave of attacks on teachers, students, and schools.

NSCDC Bauchi State Commandant, Mr. Ilelaboye Oyejide, stated during the squad’s Wednesday unveiling that the unit will guard the state’s universities, polytechnics, colleges, and boarding institutions.

According to him, the NSCDC and other state security agencies are required to coordinate the scheme’s execution in accordance with the Safe Schools Declaration, which was ratified by the federal government in 2018.

According to the Commandant, the Safe Schools Initiative would lessen armed conflict in educational settings where bombings, kidnappings, and teacher and student killings have happened.

He expressed optimism that the Safe Schools Initiative, when implemented well, will lessen the number of out-of-school children that Bauchi is now trying to address with a variety of policies and initiatives.

Other safety and security concerns that students face on different campuses, such assault, theft, and sexual and child abuse, will be addressed, according to Mr. Oyejide.

The Commandant stated that emergency hotlines have been set up to take complaints and distress calls for quick action to guarantee the protection of students and government buildings throughout the state’s 20 local governments in order to successfully carry out the project.
