Four persons have been taken into custody by the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for damaging the armoured cable that supplies electricity to the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri.

Edwin Osuala, the state commandant of the NSCDC, who paraded the suspects in Awka on Friday, stated that the arrest was made possible by prompt and reliable intelligence that an astute Awka resident gave to the Corps.

On Monday, Nov. 4, 2023, at around 6:30 a.m., the Command received a distress call informing them that some individuals were damaging the armoured cable behind Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

Following the tip, command personnel acted quickly and apprehended four suspects carrying bundles of damaged armoured electrical wiring.

He named Monday Chukwu, 37, of Ntezi, Ebonyi State; Okwudiri Nnaji, 29, of Idodo Nkanu East, Enugu State; Agu Ikechukwu, 20, of Ehamufu Isiuzo Local Government Area (LGA), Enugu State; and Chinecherem Idoho, from Uboloafor Udenu, Enugu State, as the four individuals who had been taken into custody.

The Investigation and Intelligence Department was instructed by the State Commandant to initiate the process of capturing any other fugitive suspects related to the incident.

He indicated that all accused would be charged in court following a thorough investigation.

Osuala disapproved of the state’s electricity installation vandals, branding them as economic saboteurs and threatening to prosecute anyone caught in their tracks.
