The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has announced intentions to increase the minimum wage of players in the league from N150,000 to an undisclosed amount.
NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, emphasized the need for a wage review due to the current economic situation in Nigeria.
He reassured the NPFL’s dedication to the players’ well-being, expressing concern over clubs paying below the N150,000 benchmark.

“Even N150,000 is not enough, so we will raise it next season. Some players settle for less just to join certain clubs,” he explained.
“This is why we are now requiring clubs to document player salaries for licensing purposes. Payments must be made through banks to ensure transparency.
