The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has made an official announcement regarding the ongoing league season, revealing that there will be a temporary halt after Matchday 34 to allow Rivers United to catch up on their backlog of fixtures.
The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, confirmed this decision in a press release, also mentioning that the league schedule will be slightly adjusted to accommodate the President’s Federation Cup Round of 64 matches set to take place the following Wednesday.
The NPFL emphasized that this short break in the league season is necessary to ensure that Rivers United can complete all their outstanding fixtures, particularly those accumulated due to their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The league body expressed its hope that Rivers United will be able to clear their fixture backlog promptly once the pause in the league season is implemented.
