The Northern Senators’ Forum has strongly condemned the killing of a Sokoto monarch, calling for justice and an end to violence in the region.
On Thursday, August 22, the Northern Senators’ Forum censured bandits for brutally killing Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa – the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State. The murder occurred after a futile attempt to secure N60 million ransom payment from him.
Expressing sympathy to the family of the deceased, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, chairman of NSF stated in Abuja that perpetrators of this cruel act must be brought to justice by security agencies.
Expressing deep sorrow and grief, Yar’adua wrote to extend condolences on behalf of the Northern Senators Forum and denounce the heinous killing of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, revered as patriarch and Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State.
The act of his kidnapping, torture, and ultimate murder at the hands of bandits is a reprehensible and intolerable occurrence that has stunned us all.
Our deepest condolences to you. During this time of indescribable sorrow and anguish, we offer our unwavering support and solidarity with you.

Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa and other traditional rulers serve as the primary leaders in diverse communities throughout Nigeria.
The rich cultural heritage and values of our people are manifested by them, therefore it is essential for law enforcement agencies to safeguard their well-being.
When a traditional leader is killed, it amounts to an offense not just against the person but also an assault on our society’s very foundation.
I implore the security agencies to escalate their endeavors in locating and holding accountable those responsible for committing this atrocious act.
It is absolutely essential that we take action to ensure that acts of terrorism do not remain unchecked. We must put measures in place to prevent these events from occurring again, as they disrespect our institutions and endanger the foundational elements of our national identity.
My sincere sympathies go out to the residents of Sokoto State for their loss of this esteemed individual. His passing is an unfortunate event that impacts us all, and it’s crucial we unite in guaranteeing justice prevails.
Rest assured that the Armed Forces and other security agencies have been effectively dismantling terrorist hideouts in the Northern States with commendable progress.
