Northern Political Bigwigs Under FG Probe for Russian Flag
Northern political leaders are being investigated by the FG for their association with the Russian flag incident.
At least four politicians hailing from Nigeria’s northern region are under investigation by its security agencies over allegations of support for the #EndBadGovernance protests through the display of Russian flags.
According to OBASANJONEWS, several insiders have reported that influential leaders from Katsina, Kaduna and Kano states played a central role in inciting protesters in the north to use Russian flags as a means of provoking an unlawful overthrow of government.
One of the sources, who spoke anonymously due to lack of authorization on the matter, revealed that four major individuals involved in this matter have been identified as top politicians from Katsina, Kano and Kaduna. The security agencies are reportedly getting closer to them.
“The source added that they had played significant roles in the previous year’s election (2023).”
One of our correspondents was informed by another anonymous source that there is proof of external interference, particularly from politicians collaborating with a West African and European nation to create chaos and encourage the display of these flags. Their intention is to replicate what they have done in other countries.
On Monday, the protests across the country about suffering and starvation escalated to a perilous level. In certain Northern states, demonstrators brandished Russian flags while they vocalized “Tinubu must go.”
The Russian flag was being waved by demonstrators in Kaduna as they chanted “Tinubu ze soka kaa’sa,”, meaning “Tinubu is required to resign.”.
Military personnel were also praised for their patrol of the city with chants of “Tinubu yaa’so’ka, mu’na so soja”, which translates to mean “Step down Tinubu, we want soldiers.”
Currently engaged in a cold war with the West, Russia – an Eastern power- has been held responsible for various unconstitutional alterations of government within multiple West African nations including Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
On Monday, the Nigerian military declared that anyone displaying the Russian flag was guilty of treason and would be “prosecuted.” Additionally, they announced an ongoing investigation into those who encouraged such behavior and vowed to take “serious action” against them.
“Such conduct is utterly unacceptable… it amounts to an act of treason and will be regarded and handled accordingly,” declared General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, following a National Security Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Monday.
According to X.com, the Department of State Services has reported that they apprehended a group of tailors in Kano State who were sewing Russian flags. Additionally, some individuals supporting them have also been taken into custody.
However, on Tuesday the number of protesters carrying flags diminished significantly as state security personnel cracked down on them across various states. They arrested both the protesters and their suspected foreign supporters.
Several individuals believed to be foreign nationals, who were thought to have instigated the protests, were apprehended according to Salman Garba, Kano State’s Commissioner of Police.
