Northern groups have expressed their support for the deployment of military forces and assets to Sokoto, advocating for stronger security measures in the region.
The call by Defence Minister of State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle for the strategic deployment of military troops to Sokoto State has garnered support from various northern groups.
The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Northern Awareness Network (NAN) and the North West Solidarity Forum (NWSF) have welcomed the decision to increase collaborative military efforts against bandits operating in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi States. This move is seen as a major step towards addressing the mounting security concerns faced by northern Nigeria.
The AYCF’s President General, Yerima Shettima; NAN’s Chairman, Salihu Suleiman; and the NWSF’s Spokesperson, Tanimu Danlawal have all released individual statements stating that continued violence, criminality and insurgency in northern Nigeria pose a significant threat to its safety as well as social-economic stability. As such they acknowledge the critical need for immediate decisive action.

Acknowledging the difficulties brought about by enduring violence and criminal activities, the AYCF expressed that successful execution of this military approach is crucial in reestablishing harmony and protection. The group emphasizes its unyielding backing towards initiatives prioritizing safeguarding citizens’ security along with fostering stability within communities.
We urge the federal government to promptly apprehend individuals promoting misinformation, expressing dissent or exhibiting undue skepticism and take appropriate legal action against them.
They called upon governmental and non-governmental entities to collaborate in advocating for clear communication methods, discouraging polarizing narratives, safeguarding projects aimed at enhancing society’s welfare and security.
