Northern group puts pressure on Kwankwaso to resign for Atiku in the 2023 presidential election

The Northern Liberal Democratic Movement (NLDM) has urged Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to withdraw from the race in favour of Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The northern group asserted that Atiku is in a stronger position to win the election regardless of the former governor’s choice and that the sentiment and opinions of key players in the area and the nation support him.

This information may be found in a statement that the movement’s national secretary, Balarabe Ali Bello, released on Thursday in Abuja.

In the statement, Bello said that a lot of NNPP leaders and members in the region had switched to the PDP in preparation for an Atiku win in February because of both the regional mood and current events.

The NNPP has recently lost some of its top leaders to the PDP, including the party’s candidates for deputy governor in the states of Niger and Yobe, the state chairman of the party in Kaduna, and the zonal secretary of the party in the North East zone, who all defected along with large numbers of their supporters.

Numerous stakeholders in the area urged Kwankwaso to give up and support the former vice president, whom many believe is better positioned to win the February election, after it was reported that no less than 700,000 members of the party had defected to the PDP in Bauchi State, in the nation’s North East.
