The Concerned Northern Forum has condemned the Department of State Services’ ongoing detention of Alhaji Aminu Yaro of Sarkin Hausawan, Lagos, over his suspected connection to former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The detention was termed as a violation of human rights and disregard for the rule of law by the forum.

“We don’t see any legal reason for the DSS to continue to hold such a respected figure in detention, a community leader and renowned businessman along with his wife,” the organisation said in a statement issued by the forum’s Chairman, Mohammed Danlami, on Sunday. This is barbarous; we despise and oppose it; it is not done anyplace in the world, it is not democratic, and it can only happen under military rule.”

He stated that an accused person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court of law, and he expressed disappointment that the DSS had yet to arraign him.

Danlami stated that the organisation could not disregard the apparent injustice meted out to Yaro and his wife and urged President Bola Tinubu to summon the DSS.

It also urged Nigerians to gather in large numbers for a peaceful demonstration against the DSS’s leadership for disrespecting the rule of law and operating in an unprofessional manner.
