Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State, one of the governors of the country’s northern regions, unintentionally joined a group of security personnel on Saturday to stop bandits from attacking the people living in Zakka village in Safana Local Government Area.

According to Ibrahim Mohammed, the governor’s chief press secretary, the operation resulted in the rescue of a 33-year-old guy who had previously been kidnapped by the bandits.

When the governor received a distress call informing him that terrorists had overrun Zakka, he was in the region to inaugurate an empowerment scheme sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly.

Mohammed claimed that Governor Radda “immediately cancelled his involvement in the colourful empowerment programme of the Katsina House of Assembly Deputy Speaker” after learning of the intelligence report on the intended terrorist assault at around 1pm.

“Mr. Governor and a few members of his entourage then joined a combined team of security personnel, which included members of the Community Watch Corps, ground troops of the Nigerian Army, men of the Nigeria Police, and the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji, to engage the terrorists at Zakka Forest before the criminals advanced to the hills,” the statement continued.

The heroic forces skillfully saved a thirty-three-year-old man during a fierce gunfight with the terrorists that lasted over half an hour. Luckily, the terrorists’ ruthless plan was foiled, allowing them to flee without suffering any losses.

Governor Radda ordered the kidnapped man who was saved by the army to be transported to the hospital for emergency care after the bandits shot him in the leg.
