In a successful military operation, troops in Nigeria’s North West region recovered weapons and rescued multiple hostages from armed groups. The operation marks a significant step in restoring security to the region.
The Nigerian Army reported that troops stationed in different areas of Zamfara and Katsina states, guided by intelligence reports, successfully intercepted and disrupted terrorist activities. They also recovered weapons and rescued hostages.
This was announced in a statement shared on its WhatsApp and Instagram accounts.
On October 1, troops in Zamfara State addressed a road blockade set up by terrorists on the Jambako-Faru Road in Maradun Local Government Area, as reported in the statement.
A intense exchange of gunfire followed, compelling the terrorists to retreat and leave behind an AK-47 rifle loaded with 7.62mm (special) ammunition.
In a separate incident at Gidan Isa village within the Isa Local Government Area, troops engaged in a shootout and successfully overpowered terrorists attempting to cross the Marnona-Gudunmi-Isa Road.
Following the clash, troops retrieved a substantial amount of ammunition: 297 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) cartridges, 23 rounds of specialized 7.62mm ammo, two AK-47 magazines, in addition to a motorcycle and a mobile phone.
The statement further mentioned: “In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops reacted to an assault on Damari village located in the Dandume Local Government Area, where terrorists had kidnapped three women.”
Following a rapid chase, all the victims were successfully saved and brought back to their families.
