North Korea has introduced a new fleet of kamikaze drones, signaling advancements in its military capabilities and raising concerns over regional security in the latest defense display.

On Monday, the state-run KCNA news agency reported that Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, supervised trials for newly created suicide drones from domestic sources as tensions with South Korea and the US escalate.

According to reports, the loitering munitions that are piloted remotely can be utilized with varying striking ranges and possess the capability of accurately detecting and obliterating targets on both land and water.

Kim encouraged scientists to create and manufacture a greater range of suicide drones that could be utilized by both tactical infantry, special operations teams, strategic reconnaissance units and multi-purpose attack drones. The North Korean leader additionally proposed integrating artificial intelligence into unmanned aerial vehicles.

In a recent report by KCNA, it was announced that 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers had been added to the country’s military capabilities. Kim explained this move as a response towards what he perceives as an intensified cooperation between Washington and its neighboring allies which has become more severe over time.
