On Wednesday, the state-controlled KCNA news agency reported that a fresh guidance system was installed in a multiple rocket launcher and tested under the supervision of Kim Jong-un, North Korea’s leader.

According to the KCNA, the updated multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) has shown advantages in all respects such as maneuverability, concentrated firing capability, newly applied guiding system, controllability and destructive power.

According to the news agency, the intention of North Korea’s leader is to manufacture and supply a greater number of MLRS units for their military.

In recent months, Pyongyang has been upgrading its weaponry and expressing concerns regarding the ongoing US military drills in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula. According to North Korea, these exercises could be practice runs for a potential invasion. Currently underway are 11-day joint drills involving computer-simulated war games as well as over forty types of field maneuvers and combat simulations conducted by both South Korea and America; this exercise is set to conclude on Thursday.

Currently, the relationship between North and South Korea is strained. The government of Pyongyang has declared South Korea as its main adversary and issued warnings of war or counterattacks against any perceived slight from the southern neighbor.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry released a statement last week declaring their intention to bolster their military capabilities in order to maintain a balance of power with the US, who are arming South Korea extensively. The purpose of this action is not only to safeguard national security and interests but also ensure peace within the region through heightened strategic deterrence measures.

Russia and North Korea’s relationship has strengthened in the previous year, with both countries agreeing to elevate coordination across all domains and protect one another against potential external hostilities. Allegedly, officials from South Korea and the US have claimed that Pyongyang is supporting Russia regarding its dispute with Ukraine.

The accusations have been denied by both Moscow and Pyongyang, who labeled them as “unfounded.” President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia plans to establish relations with North Korea regardless of opposition.
