For primary, secondary, and university teachers to receive pay raises, the House of Representatives Committee on University Education has made this demand.

On Thursday, the committee’s chairman, Abubakar Fulata, made the decision.

For teachers at basic, secondary, and tertiary institutions, he suggested monthly salaries of N250,000, N500,000, and N1 million, respectively.

On Thursday, Fulata gave a presentation at an Abuja-based one-day national stakeholder workshop on the creation of a road map for the Nigerian education sector (2023–2027).

According to Fulata, paying Nigerian teachers fairly is crucial for motivating them.

Additionally, he emphasised the importance of localising all topic textbooks in order to keep up with the rest of the globe.

He claimed that previous administrations’ efforts to solve issues in the education sector had not had the desired impact.

The local tongue of each nation has long been the topic of instruction worldwide.

“Education from the primary level on up to the tertiary level is taught in French in France, whereas education is taught in English in the UK.

The country of Nigeria is where you teach English as a foreign language. We have always had a problem with teaching our kids things that they should have learned in their own tongue.

“All textbooks in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and related subjects should be available in our native tongues. If we continue to instruct our kids in a foreign language, we will never be able to catch up to the rest of the world.

“No primary school teacher should make less than N250,000 per month, no secondary school teacher should make less than N500,000 per month, and no university teacher should make less than N1,000,000 per month.

A state of emergency in education must be declared by the country. The percentage of our national budget that must be allocated to education must be between 25 and 30 percent.

He argued that they needed to be paid fairly so that they could instruct our kids.
