No plans exist to enact new taxes in the aviation industry, according to Minister Keyamo
No plans to raise taxes on the aviation sector in Nigeria, according to the federal government.
Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development, made this announcement on Tuesday during an Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL) webinar titled “Repositioning the Aviation Sector for Revenue Generation and Growth: Role of Legislation.”
OBASANJO NEWS24 cites issues regarding the many fees and taxes that airlines and service providers in the aviation sector have to pay.
Nevertheless, the minister reaffirmed that the government is committed to repositioning the nation’s aviation sector with its five-point programme.
The government would endeavour to stop all income leaks in the aviation industry, he said.
“I’ve looked at the current gaps in relation to the work that has been done so far. As a result, we are already focusing on five key areas: strict adherence to national laws and regulations; international obligations; improvement and development of infrastructure for passenger convenience; support for the growth and survival of local airline businesses; human capacity development; and revenue generation optimisation.
I have a strong commitment to this agenda as the minister of aviation and aerospace development. The need to restructure our aviation sector for sustainable growth has never been more urgent than it is today, during these difficult times marked by shifting market dynamics and global uncertainties. It calls for collaboration, financial resources, vision, and toughness.
“I am hopeful that the stakeholders taking part in today’s webinar will build on their impressive track records to devise effective strategies for repositioning the aviation sector for income creation and growth through the use of law. We are dedicated as a government to programmes and policy changes that will encourage investment throughout the aviation value chain, the official added.
