NNPP expresses its support for Atiku and welcomes the merger of opposition parties
Proposing to combine opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, former vice president Atiku Abubakar’s idea was hailed as a positive move by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Tuesday.
Acting National Chairman of the party Abba Ali claimed during a news conference in Abuja that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was in power at the time, was defeated by the All Progressives (APC) as a result of the opposition parties’ merger prior to the 2015 elections.
In an effort to restrain the ruling APC’s excessive push towards a one-party state and safeguard our hard-won democracy, Ali stated, “It was recently reported that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of the Federal Republic, had advocated for the merging of opposition parties.
“We heartily applaud Atiku Abubakar for this call; we view it as a patriotic and positive development,” stated the NNPP.
To that degree, the NNPP is restating its stance that we fully support the former vice president’s most recent call.
As we previously said, the NNPP is approaching this issue from a much broader perspective and taking into account all of the variables that are inherent in it, even though we strongly support this endeavour and see it as a matter of need.
