The legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has officially submitted a comprehensive list of court judgements related to the case to the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja.

Barr Nnaemeka Ejiofor, the head of the team, informed the press on Thursday that these judgements, from both local and international courts, have called for the release of the IPOB leader.

This action was taken in response to the AGF’s statement claiming ignorance of Kanu’s case and suggesting that the court would determine his fate. Ejiofor also urged President Bola Tinubu to adhere to the various court orders directing Kanu’s release. Fagbemi had previously stated on May 24 that Kanu’s case is complex and should be handled by a competent court.

He highlighted the differences between Kanu’s situation and that of Omoyele Sowore. Kanu’s legal team had recently filed a preliminary objection at the Federal High Court Abuja, questioning the court’s jurisdiction to proceed with the trial.

This objection raised concerns about the constitutionality of the charges against Kanu. Despite Kanu’s request for bail restoration and a change in custody, Justice Nyako dismissed these appeals.

Kanu has been in DSS custody since his arrest in Kenya in June 2021 and is currently facing terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government.
