They believe that Kanu’s continuous incarceration is not only a personal humiliation but also a disgrace to the entire Igbo community.
In response to the recent denial of Kanu’s bail application by the Federal High Court in Abuja, the family expressed their concerns.
Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, issued a statement alleging that certain self-serving politicians who benefit from the insecurity in the Southeast are responsible for his brother’s prolonged detention.
The family further questioned why some Igbo political leaders have failed to establish contact with President Bola Tinubu since he assumed power.
They raised the issue of why no one has approached Tinubu to discuss the release of Nnamdi Kanu, even though almost a year has passed since he took office.
The family suspects that this lack of action is intentional and wonders why these leaders have no trouble gaining access to the President on other matters.
They expressed disappointment that Kanu is being punished for advocating for the freedom of the Igbo people, while the leaders have seemingly abandoned him to suffer in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The family also highlighted the deteriorating health condition of Nnamdi Kanu, emphasizing that nobody seems to care about his well-being.
They revealed that his health is worsening every day and expressed concern that he has not even been provided with clean clothes.
They questioned why the court continues to hold him in DSS custody instead of transferring him to a Correctional Centre.
The family raised the important question of why these Igbo leaders, who claim to love the South East, are not taking any serious steps to secure Kanu’s release.
They strongly believe that something is amiss and suspect that these leaders are benefiting from his continued detention, which is why they are reluctant to engage with President Buhari.
They also reminded everyone that some individuals were responsible for sponsoring Kanu’s abduction and extraordinary rendition.
