The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS). The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has called on President Bola Tinubu to show heroism by freeing Kanu.
Goodluck Ibem, the president general of the sociopolitical group, stated as much in a statement on Saturday.
The group declared that if Tinubu maintains the rule of law by releasing Nnamdi Kanu, they will celebrate.
In part, the statement says: “President Tinubu had previously supported the rule of law and adherence to court rulings, which guided his choice to join NADECO, an organisation that opposed military tyranny and juntas.
“The complete release of Nnamdi Kanu will demonstrate that President Tinubu says and upholds the values he battled for during the military regime.
“As the Supreme Court makes a decision on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case on December 15, 2023, the whole Southeast geopolitical zone is eagerly awaiting his arrival.
“By releasing Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody, President Tinubu has upheld the rule of law and respected court orders. We will celebrate this.”
With the release of the IPOB leader, the group expressed hope that the insecurity in the Southeast would end.
