The delay in the release of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Nnamdi Kanu’s case has been criticized by his family.
The Supreme Court had overturned the previous ruling of the Appeal Court, which had acquitted Kanu of terrorism charges. Instead, the apex court ordered that Kanu should be tried in the appropriate court.
The head of the Kanu family expressed concern that the non-release of the CTC was hindering their ability to pursue further legal actions.
Investigations conducted by the family revealed that the justices of the Supreme Court had not yet signed the judgment, more than four weeks after it was delivered. The family questioned why the justices would allow the normal 14-day period to elapse without signing the judgment.
They suspected foul play in the delay and believed that withholding the CTC was a violation of Nigeria’s treaty obligations, equating it to official terrorism.
Quoting the Terrorism (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, Kanu argued that the actions of the justices, the presidency, and the Nigerian entity were in violation of the law. The family called on the Supreme Court to release the CTC to enable them to pursue further legal options.
