The winner of the 2023 CAF Women’s Keeper of the Year award is Chiamaka Nnadozie.
At the CAF awards, which were hosted on Monday night in Marakesh, Morocco, Nnadozie was named Africa’s best.
She defeated two other goalkeepers, Andile Olaminii of South Africa and Moroccan stopper Khadija El-Rmichi.
She demonstrated her bravery in the Women’s World Cup match against Olympic champions Canada by blocking three penalties, including one from Christine Sinclair in the 50th minute.
Her efforts in the game won her Player of the Match honours, a goalless draw for the Super Falcons, and recognition on a global scale.
Additionally, Nnadozie has played a significant role in Paris FC’s success this season. She has contributed to their first-ever Women’s Champions League qualification and has kept six clean sheets.
“I just want to use this great opportunity to say a very great thank you to the organisers and also for remembering the female custodian this year,” the 23-year-old stated in her acceptance speech.
“I also want to express my sincere gratitude to the president of Nigerian football for everything that he has done for female football and the Nigerian league. I am a Nigerian female football product.
“Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for me, as well as to my club, Paris FC, for all the support.”
“Believe me, dreams do come true for all the young girls who grew up in Africa and dreamed of becoming football players someday.”
“I’m sure my dad will be happy to see me play tonight, even though he never wanted me to.” Continue to aspire and to work hard. I’m grateful.
