The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was brought to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri and operated on to seal his right eye.
The NLC’s Head of Information and Publicity, Comrade Benson Upah, clarified that when Ajaero was kidnapped, there was an attempt on his life.
“Comrade Joe Ajaero, the Congress President, was contacted this evening at the Owerri Police Hospital at around 5:30 p.m. After that, he was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, where he is receiving medical attention, according to the statement.

“His right eye was totally closed at the moment of contact due to severe brutalization.” He went on, “Ajaero, who did not say much, claimed that right after his detention he was blindfolded, beaten, and transferred to an unidentified location where additional brutality occurred, sometimes with bottles.
“They took his phones, cash, and other personal belongings and haven’t given them back to him.”
