The State High Court, the House of Assembly, and the Civil Service Secretariat were all under lock and key in Edo.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) launched a strike action today, and workers from numerous states have joined it. The strike action has caused the closure of several government-owned facilities.

In accordance with the national organization’s declaration of nationwide industrial action, the NLC chapter in Edo State stopped operations at government buildings.

Civil workers who had arrived for work were locked out of the Civil Service Secretariat in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, by union leaders, among them Mr. Odion Olaye, the state chairman of the NLC.

At the State High Court and the Edo State House of Assembly, where the gates were locked, the same situation occurred.

Customers in the capital city were forced to use ATMs to complete their transactions when certain banks closed.

As directed by their national leadership, the NLC, TUC, and other affiliated bodies joined the continuing indefinite national industrial action in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.

Hamed Ademola, BENKO, the state chairman of the NLC, commented on the evolution of the indefinite industrial action and expressed satisfaction with the degree of compliance.

Similarly, the NLC and TUC branches in Katsina State joined the strike action, stating that it will go on until all tiers of government acknowledge their responsibility.

All public organisations, including the NLC Secretariat, withdrew their services, and all entrances remained secured, demonstrating the broad compliance observed throughout the state capital.

Filling stations, among other things, were seen to be fully operational as individuals went about their regular business in private institutions.

Even though many employees hadn’t shown up by 10:30 am, skeletal services looked to be in place in Rivers State outside the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt.

While the Ministry of Works and the Office of the Federal Controller of Works were completely empty, the Nigeria Immigration Service was operating as usual.
