The Taraba State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed satisfaction with the degree of worker compliance with the union’s ongoing two-day warning strike.
After touring Jalingo, the state capital, Taraba NLC Chairman Peter Jediel said the action was intended to ensure complete compliance and that the union’s leadership is pleased with how the workforce has responded to the industrial action.
He lamented that the amount provided by the federal government as palliatives to each state of the federation is “grossly inadequate,” adding that the NLC will not let up until the central government deems it appropriate to take the necessary action.
Jediel added that the state chapter of the union had put in nonstop labour to get ready for today.
According to him, “We sent a message across the state calling on workers to vacate their offices in solidarity with our national colleagues following the hardship we are passing through as a result of the subsidy removal.”
He stated: “After this two-day warning strike, if the Federal Government does not address our plight, we may consider a 14-day ultimatum, after which we will begin a total shutdown of the nation until the government takes action to address the excruciating mass suffering and the impoverishment being experienced in the nation.”
Activities in the numerous ministries, departments, and agencies OBASANJO NEWS24 visited came to a complete halt due to the workers’ complete compliance with the current warning strike.
Bank operations were likewise halted; they were not exempt.
