On Friday, a demonstration took place in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), students, youths, civil society organizations, labor unions, and members of the Hausa community all participated in the march.
This gathering occurred just a few days after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis that had engulfed the state. T
he conflict revolved around a power struggle between the former governor, Nyseom Wike, and Fubara. As a result, 27 lawmakers in the House defected from the PDP to the ruling APC party, which Wike currently serves as a minister in the central government.
The situation escalated to the point where the governor faced impeachment, the Assembly complex was demolished, and several pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet resigned. However, a resolution appeared to have been achieved following a meeting between Tunubu and the warring factions on Monday.
