NLC and TUC call for an indefinite strike by Zamfara workers
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) chapters in Zamfara have urged all workers in the state to join the upcoming nationwide strike as instructed by the two organisations’ national headquarters.
The call was made on Sunday in Gusau by the State NLC Chairman, Mr. Sani Halliru, immediately after a combined state executive council meeting of the two unions.
“Starting on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, no private or public schools will be open in the state.
“Working establishments in the state, including hospitals, marketplaces, petrol stations, courthouses and motorparks, among others, would be closed forever.
“We therefore urged members of the affiliate unions and the general public to support us as we move to salvage the country,” Halliru continued.
Pupils and kids, he continued, should stay at home during the strike because school security cannot be guaranteed.
Mr. Saidu Mudi, the State Chairman of the TUC, highlighted the need for cooperation between the two unions in the state in order for the strike to be successful.
“In Zamfara, we are fiercely united in the struggle for workers’ rights to ensure that we can lessen the difficulties affecting Nigerians’ quality of life.
“I am optimistic that there will be complete compliance throughout the entire nation because we have organised workers at the grass-roots level and they have all agreed to join the strike,” the author said. Mudi elucidated. (NAN
