The planned statewide strike is set to begin at midnight today, as agreed upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).
The attack on the NLC President and others in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1st, as well as the state’s ongoing labour difficulties, are the reasons behind the strike.

On November 7, they decided to go on a nationwide walkout by Tuesday, November 14, in the event that their demands were not fulfilled.
Recall that together with others, suspected state agents and security personnel arrived in Ajaero.
Labour leaders set their cars on fire, hurting the drivers, and taking away belongings including phones, cash, and ATM cards from them and other attendees at the NLC State secretariat before of their planned November 1 protest against unresolved labour concerns.
Along with other issues, the NLC President, other national leaders, and their TUC counterparts gathered at the NLC state secretariat in Owerri to protest non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage Act, pensions, gratuities, and the backlog of unpaid wages and allowances.
Outrage and condemnation of Ajaero’s and others’ attack, brutalization, and beating have persisted throughout the nation and abroad.
