A tragic incident occurred on the Okene-Lokoja Highway in Kogi, resulting in the death of 19 individuals.
The Assistant Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jonas Agwu, revealed that the accident involved a Dangote Cement truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.
The FRSC had to navigate through the intense flames for three hours to rescue the two survivors.
According to Agwu, the Toyota bus was traveling from Kano and was in its designated lane when the Dangote truck driver, coming from Port Harcourt, recklessly overtook another vehicle and collided head-on with the bus.

The impact of the collision caused a devastating inferno, leading to the tragic deaths of the victims.
The crash, which was a result of route violation and wrongful overtaking, involved a total of 22 individuals, all of whom were male. Sadly, 19 of them lost their lives, while one sustained injuries.
The two survivors, who were fortunate enough to escape without harm, had followed traffic regulations by wearing their seatbelts. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Okene General Hospital for further procedures.
Agwu assured the public that the driver of the Dangote truck would face prosecution as per the directives of the Corps Marshal, Alhaji Dauda Ali-Biu. Ali-Biu had previously called upon the judiciary, transport union leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to collaborate with the FRSC in order to restore order and safety on Nigerian roads through swift and effective prosecution.
