The debut album “Trench To Triumph,” by Nigerian musician Charles Chibuezechukwu, better known by his stage name Crayon, is a musical depiction of his life experiences, he claims.

The CD, according to him, chronicles his journey from being signed to Mavin Records to living in the ghetto with his family in a one-room “face-me-I-face-you” flat that held nine of them.

The vocalist of “Ngozi” claimed that for 19 years, his mother peddled fruits in an Iyana-Iba kiosk.

“Trench To Triumph” is my story, Crayon stated in a recent interview with Glitch Africa. That’s the truth about me. That is what I am made of. Everything I am now is that. I was born in Orile and grew up in a room with nine other individuals in a face-me-I-face-you flat. When you open your door, you witness altercations.

“My mother worked for 19 years in a row selling fruits at Iyana-Iba. “Trench To Triumph” is my narrative. That is what I am made of. That’s the truth about me. To me, it is everything. I am now living in my golden age. I’m content with my life. Everything in life is going well. Everything is fantastic.
