Nine individuals are being held by the police in Anambra for damaging electricity infrastructure

Police in Anambra State arrested nine people after they found them breaking electrical equipment and infrastructure.

The men were caught in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, after they had used heavy machinery to break down an electric mast.

A press release from DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the state police command’s spokeswoman, said that one woman and eight men were among those who were arrested.

He stated: “On January 15, 2023, at 3 a.m., police officers working with members of the vigilante group at the New Site, Ikpo Urueze Land, Oba, and Idemili South, acting on reliable information, apprehended nine people.”

“Among the suspects are:

Amara Nneji is 39 years old; Kinsley Iwuozo is 50 years old; Romanus Dim is 40 years old; Abuchi Onuoha is 29 years old; Chukwudi Eke is 39 years old; Ikechukwu Eze is 44 years old; Ukpe Monday is 40 years old; and Ikenna Christopher is 28 years old.

“After damaging the electricity power line mast at the aforementioned site, the security personnel found a vehicle with seven welding machines, some irons, and other high-tech equipment.

“They (the suspects) all admitted to some level of involvement in the act.”When the investigations are done, they will be charged in court.

The following automobiles, which the police assumed to be stolen and abandoned, were also found. They are a black Lexus ES 350 with the registration number Lagos AKD 495 HU and a grey Toyota Camry with the registration number Lagos JJJ 653 HW.

“Given the aforementioned,” he stated, “the Command asks anyone or any group looking for any of the vehicles highlighted above to come to the Office of the Command Public Relations Officer, Awka, for verification and potential collection.”
