Nine abducted children are rescued by police in Zamfara
According to the Police Command in Zamfara, nine kidnapped children from the Gora-Namaye Community in the Maradun Local Government Area of the state have been rescued.
The statement was issued in Gusau on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar.
He stated, “On June 3, 2023, at approximately 14:00 hours, the district head of Gora-Namaye village in Maradun LGA reported that nine children, both male and female, sent by their parents to collect firewood in the forest were intercepted and kidnapped by armed bandits.
“Upon receiving the report, the joint police and other security agencies responded to the scene and launched a search and rescue operation, which resulted in the children’s rescue.”
The police spokesperson stated that the command had already unconditionally reunited the victims with their families.
Abubakar stated that efforts to track down the criminals for prosecution are ongoing.
The Nigerian News Agency, NAN, recalls that gunmen attacked some communities in the same Maradun LGA on Saturday, killing some innocent people.
