NiMet Predicts 3-Day Thunderstorms Starting Thursday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms across various regions, beginning Thursday and expected to last for three days. Residents are advised to take precautions.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thundery weather conditions throughout the country from Thursday to Saturday.
In a weather forecast published on Wednesday, NiMet announced that the northern region can anticipate morning thunderstorms on Thursday.
The agency forecasts thunderstorms specifically for areas in Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states. Later in the day, additional thunderstorms are anticipated over regions including Zamfara, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa and Kebbi states.
People living in these areas are encouraged to take necessary precautions due to the forecasted weather, as thunderstorms may cause disruptions and potential hazards.
In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms are expected in areas including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara and Benue States. Later on throughout the day , these storms are anticipated to cover most of this region.
NiMet predicted that morning thunderstorms would occur over sections of Ebonyi and Enugu States in the southern region, with most parts of this area experiencing storms later in the day.
On Friday, the northern region is expected to experience thunderstorms in parts of Taraba State during the morning. In the afternoon and evening, storms are forecasted for areas within Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa States.
In the North Central region, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms occurring in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa States during the morning hours.

“It also stated that thunderstorms are anticipated across most areas of the region from afternoon into evening hours.”
NiMet reports that thunderstorms are anticipated in the morning over sections of Abia, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
Thunderstorms are expected to occur across most areas of the region later in the day.
The agency forecasted thunderstorms for Saturday morning in areas of Taraba and Adamawa States located in the northern region.
Thunderstorms are anticipated over areas of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Taraba, and Adamawa States later today.
It forecasted thunderstorms for areas within the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa States in the morning hours.
The agency forecasted thunderstorms for areas of Plateau and Nasarawa States later today.
Thunderstorms are expected across most areas of the southern region during both morning and evening hours.
There is a significant risk of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall. Residents are encouraged to steer clear of areas prone to flooding.
“Strong winds may occur before the rain in areas where thunderstorms are expected. The public should take appropriate precautions.”
