Niger’s traditional ruler is killed as police launch manhunt for the killers of Catholic priest

According to reports, a group of criminals killed Mohammed Abdulsafur, the traditional leader of the Lambata in the Gurara local government area of Niger State.

Eons of intelligence said that the village chief was slain after a bloody altercation broke out between the thugs on Saturday night.

The Very Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Paikoro Local Government Area of the state was allegedly killed on Sunday, according to Niger’s police, who said they sent in more people to find the killers.

DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the state’s police public relations officer, made this statement in a statement released on Sunday.
The statement reads: “On January 15, 2023, at or about 3:00 a.m., armed bandits broke into the parish residence of one Rev. Father Isaac Achi of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church along Daza Road, Kafin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area.

“Unfortunately, it appears that the robbers tried to break into the house but were unsuccessful. They then set the house on fire, killing the Rev. Father, who was inside.

“Father Collins, the Rev. Father’s colleague, was shot in the shoulder as well while attempting to flee the scene.

The police commissioner for the Niger State Command, Ogundele Ayodeji, has sent a reinforcement team to the area. While the sad attack is being looked into, efforts are still being made to catch the attackers.

The report says that Kaffin-Koro Division tactical police squads were sent to the area right away, but by the time they got there, the criminals had already left.

According to Abiodun, Father Collins was rushed to the hospital for treatment, while Late Isaac’s lifeless body was recovered.

In a statement, the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which is led by Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, condemned the horrible act, according to PlatinumPost.

CAN encouraged the three levels of government to take more steps to protect people and property in the state and urged law enforcement to find the murderers.
