Nigeria’s Tax Reforms Long Overdue, Says Minister
Nigeria’s Minister of Finance emphasizes that the country is long overdue for comprehensive tax reforms to drive economic growth and improve revenue generation.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, has stated that reforms to Nigeria’s tax system are long overdue.
He announced this during the national discourse organized by the Kaduna Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations on Saturday in Kaduna State.
Idris emphasized the importance of public relations in connecting the government with the people.
He emphasized the need for greater public trust and communication as Nigeria embarks on essential tax reforms to boost economic growth.
Under the theme “Tax Reforms: The Role of Public Relations in Fostering Constructive Dialogue for National Economic Renaissance,” Idris emphasized the critical need to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system, describing it as hampered by outdated structures and a widespread mistrust among taxpayers.
Around the globe, effective taxation serves as a crucial financial resource for governments to deliver social services to their citizens.
“Nigeria’s tax administration system is urgently in need of reform due to design and implementation flaws, as well as the general attitudes of taxpayers toward taxation,” he stated.
