The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) has been compared to Nigeria’s Cambridge and Harvard Universities by Senator Godswill Akpabio, the head of the country’s Senate.

At the Institute’s permanent location in Abuja, Akpabio drew a parallel between the facilities and favourable learning atmosphere offered there and those found in Cambridge, Harvard, and other highly regarded universities across the globe.

“The Institute has the ability to significantly contribute to Nigerian democracy due to its remarkable facilities, vision, and concentration.

“With this infrastructure, Nigerians can now receive legislative training without having to fly abroad. He declared, “This is our own Harvard and Cambridge.”

Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, the leader of the Senate, Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, and Senator Adetokunbo Abiru accompanied Akpabio on the visit.

The President of the Senate wrote the introduction to NILDS’ most recent publication, “25 Years of Democracy and Development in Nigeria,” which was introduced during the event by Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, the organization’s director general.

The book details Nigeria’s democratic transition and advancement since 1999.

In a related move, Rt. Hon. Maimounatou Ibrahima, Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, paid NILDS a visit to request the organization’s support in building the capacity of legislators and the staff members who support them.
