Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, expressed deep concern over the current state of Nigeria’s judiciary, emphasizing that it is facing an undeniable decline that poses a threat to the nation’s future.
Speaking at the 5th Memorial of Justice Anthony Nnaemeka Aniagolu at Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Obi delivered a Keynote speech titled ‘The Role of the Judiciary in Shaping Nigeria’s Future’.
He paid tribute to the late Justice Aniagolu, highlighting his distinguished career and unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice in Nigeria.

Obi called for drawing inspiration from the exemplary service of Justice Aniagolu and other respected Nigerian judges, emphasizing the importance of integrity, fairness, respect for the rule of law, transparency, humility, and the dispensation of justice.
He pointed out the decline in the judicial system, warning that justice is increasingly being influenced by financial interests rather than principles.
Obi stressed the detrimental effects of compromising the rule of law, highlighting the impact on vulnerable members of society, the integrity of institutions, human rights protection, and national stability.
He emphasized the need to prioritize the pursuit of justice above all else to safeguard the rule of law, which he described as the most valuable asset of any society.
