Nigeria’s healthy food costs reach N1,265 – NBS report
According to NBS, the cost of healthy food in Nigeria has increased to N1,265, reflecting rising prices in the country.
In July 2024, the cost of a nutritious diet in Nigeria increased by 1.9 percent to N1,265 on average.
Recently released data from the National Bureau of Statistics reveals information on the cost of a healthy diet.
In June 2024, there was a recorded increase from N1,241 as shown by the figure.

When conducting a zonal analysis, it was found that the South West had the highest average CoHD at N1,581 per adult/day while the North West only had an average of N956 per adult/day.
Excluding the cost of transportation and meal preparation, this represents the minimum price per day for each adult.
The data from CoHD revealed that the increase in prices has been more rapid than both general inflation and food inflation over the last few months.
In July 2024, Nigeria experienced headline and food inflation rates of 33.40 percent and 39.53 percent respectively which coincided with this recent development.
