Leke Abejide, the Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the National Assembly, has appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration for a minimum of two years.

He believes that this time frame is necessary for the policies implemented by the government to take effect and yield positive outcomes. Abejide made this statement during a grand reception held in his honor by the Yoruba Community in Kano.

The event also included the bestowal of the title of Asiwaju of Yoruba Kano upon him by His Royal Highness, the Oba Yoruba of Kano, Doctor Murtala Alimi Otisese. Abejide, who serves as the Chairman of the Customs and Excise Committee of the House of Representatives, expressed his confidence in the ability of the Tinubu administration to improve the country’s economy.

He compared the current situation to a woman in labor, emphasizing that although there may be pain and difficulties in the short term, the eventual outcome will be beneficial. Abejide urged the people to remain patient and assured them that the economy would undergo a transformation within the next two years. He also promised to complete the construction of the palace of the Oba Yoruba of Kano, demonstrating his commitment to the Yoruba community in Kano.

The Oba Yoruba of Kano, Doctor Alimi Murtala Otisese, expressed his gratitude to Abejide for his significant contributions to the Yoruba residents in Kano, particularly through his efforts in empowering widows and orphans. This was one of the reasons why he bestowed upon Abejide the title of Asiwaju of Yoruba Kano.

Alhaji Abdussalam Abdullatif, the Special Adviser on Yoruba Affairs, spoke on behalf of Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, emphasizing that the current administration is committed to maintaining an all-encompassing government that prioritizes the welfare of the people and ensures the delivery of democratic dividends.

Our correspondent also highlights that Abejide, who hails from Kano but later moved to his hometown in Kogi State, successfully ran for and won seats in the House of Representatives in both the 2019 and 2023 elections under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party.
