Nigerians in Canada have taken action against threats targeting Yoruba and Edo people, according to Dabiri-Erewa. Learn about the measures taken.
Nigerians living in Canada are taking action to address the reported threats attributed to Amaka Sunnberger, a fellow Nigerian residing in North America, according to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Canadian authorities have been notified about the threats allegedly directed towards individuals belonging to Yoruba and Edo communities.
NiDCOM had filed a petition regarding these disturbing allegations with the Mayor of Brampton, Canada, Patrick Brown.
The petition alleges that Sunnberger has made threats to harm and murder members of the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups by poisoning them.
On August 28, 2024, Dabiri-Erewa addressed a letter to the mayor pointing out that Sunnberger – who works as a disability support worker in Brampton – had made unsettling remarks.

Dabiri-Erewa voiced her apprehension about the possible harm that Sunnberger could inflict upon the susceptible individuals under her care and stressed on conducting a complete investigation.
Dabiri-Erewa restated the pressing nature of the matter, affirming that her office at NiDCOM will take action as long as she serves and diaspora issues continue to be brought to their attention. The Nigerian community in Canada has already begun discussions with pertinent officials about this issue.
According to a source who spoke with SaharaReporters, Sunnberger has been summoned by Canadian officials after allegedly making threats that were recorded in a viral video.
According to reports, Sunnberger can be seen in the video promoting the poisoning of food and water supplies as a means to harm Yoruba and Edo individuals. Furthermore, he is also encouraging Igbo persons to take forceful actions against these particular communities.
Moreover, it was previously communicated that the Nigerian House of Representatives has initiated an official request addressed to His Excellency James Christoff, Canada’s High Commissioner in Nigeria pertaining to the matter.
On August 28, 2024, Biodun Omoleye and Tochukwu Chinedu Okere submitted a petition. Mr. Omoleye is the Chairman of Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group while Mr. Okere serves as Chairperson for the House Committee on Diaspora Matters.
Sunnberger has denied any arrest or pending deportation amidst the backlash. During a recent TikTok live session, she refuted these allegations and confirmed that as a Canadian citizen with her passport intact, such claims are baseless nonsense.
