Minister Nyesom Wike delivers a scathing response to Atiku Abubakar, claiming Nigerians have rejected the former presidential candidate, urging him to ‘pack and go’ amid ongoing political tensions.
Nyesom Wike has responded to former vice president Atiku Abubakar by calling the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a consistent loser.
Atiku criticized Wike, the Minister of the FCT and former governor of Rivers State, regarding the local government elections in that state.
The Action People’s Party (APP) secured 22 of the 23 local government chairmanship positions in the election, which Atiku claimed demonstrates Wike’s rejection by the public.
However, a few weeks later, the minister stated that after running as the PDP candidate in both the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections and losing, Atiku has been rejected by Nigerians.
“We never entered local government elections. Did we run? Did we even apply for candidacy? I heard Atiku Abubakar claim, ‘Oh, they have rejected me in Rivers State.’ Well, assuming but not conceding that he was indeed rejected multiple times; Nigerians have repeatedly done the same to him,” Wike stated on Saturday during a luncheon he hosted for the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rivers State.
“If you claim that Nigerians have rejected us because we didn’t contest or participate in an election, that’s fine. However, as for those of you who participated and were soundly defeated, it’s clear that Nigerians have rejected you. Therefore, pack up and go home.”
