Nigerians express their opinions on Sanwo-Olu’s approval of N3.75bn for perfume and rechargeable fans
The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has come under fire from the public for allowing N7.5 million to replace the liquid fragrance in his office and N3 billion to purchase rechargeable fans for the office of his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.
In the second and third quarters of 2023, the Public Procurement Agency (PPA) of Lagos state granted contracts for several purchases, among them the permission of approximately N440 million for the acquisition of a new Lexus LX 600 Bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicle, which will be added to the Office of Chief of Staff’s fleet.
Additionally, N18.5 million was given to the Chief of Staff’s office in order to purchase and distribute 2,000 Noiler chicks to all of the state’s wards and local government areas.

According to information published on Twitter, the government also approved N152 million for the restoration of the water supply to the Iduganran Palace, the official residence of the Oba of Lagos.
The report also stated that N581 million will be spent by the state for Saint Andrews Anglican Church repairs in Oke-Popo.
In keeping with this ethos, the wife of the deputy governor donated N30 million to the office of the deputy governor for monthly outreach to the underprivileged, and an additional N30 million was provided for the empowerment programme.
The Action Democratic Congress’s (ADC) candidate for governor of Lagos in 2023, Funsho Doherty, claimed he had written an open letter to Governor Sanwo-Olu requesting that he assess some of the projects because of the document’s lavish contracts that were straining public funds.
“I just sent the governor an open letter outlining several concerns that require additional investigation and corrective action regarding the Public Procurement awards reported by LASG for the second and third quarters of 2023.
He posted on X, the former Twitter platform, saying, “Judicious use of public funds is always important and is especially so now.”
Some of the contracts in the paper were questioned by netizens, who emphasised that the government officials are wasteful and indifferent to the situation of ordinary Nigerians.
“It’s evident why some would rather die than conduct free and fair elections,” stated @SavvyRinu.
This opens our eyes. I find it surprising that hens are being provided and distributed by the chief of staff’s office. We eagerly await the state government’s reaction,” commented @biodun_alao.
“Nobody will manage his private business this way,” replied @Kelvin18123, “because people don’t go to jail for mismanagement and plundering of Government resources, things like this will persist.”
@iam_wilsons remarked, “This is absurd. Politicians in Nigeria are essentially evil people.

“And to think that Lagos State’s minimum wage is N30,000 only,” said @DJDaley.
