Nigerians have been alerted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to a fake online loan application that is making the rounds on social media.

The phoney offer, labelled “N200,000 Palliative Loan By the Senate,” has the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) coat of arms and logo next to an inaccurate picture of Akpabio.

The fraudulent plan purports to offer rapid loan approval and was shared on Facebook under the username Templeshort.

The Senate has no connection to Templeshort and is not connected to any Facebook handle that has that name, according to a statement released by Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President’s official spokesperson.

The public was advised in the statement not to pay attention to the advertisement because it was not issued by the Senate President’s Office.

Eyiboh emphasised that Akpabio is not associated with any loan programme or palliative arrangement, characterising it as the product of con artists and dishonest people looking to take advantage of gullible Nigerians.

Honourable Eyiboh emphasised, “Senator Godswill Akpabio is not working with the CBN or any other financial institution on any loan facility as a form of palliative.”

Eyiboh further exhorted the people to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities and to ignore such schemes.
