Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of power, has promised that Nigerians will soon begin to experience better power supplies throughout the nation.

This was all the while he was declaring that the power industry had completely transformed as a result of the re-enacted electricity laws.

At the third annual workshop of the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister revealed this.

He claims that the 2023 Electricity Act has empowered states, organisations, and even private citizens to produce, transfer, and distribute electricity while also liberalising these processes.

He pointed out that the creation of the Integrated National Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan is the main component of the 2023 Electricity Act.

“To develop and submit the implementation strategy to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval, we are collaborating with the National Council on Power (NCP),” he

Additionally, he declared, “Unlike the top-down method of the past, we emphasise the bottom-up approach as part of our road map’s strategy.

The bottom-up strategy implies that we will give metering, distribution, and transmission infrastructure top priority. We will concentrate on customers in the near future, all the way down to the distribution and transmission infrastructure. This is to guarantee that end users receive a large amount of what is now generated.

“We will also monitor the generation segment, specifically in distributed (embedded) power from renewable energy sources, and in the medium to long term, we will advance base load power through thermal and hydroelectric plants.”

He said that the administration would investigate the nation’s possibilities for regional energy.

“We will prioritise solar energy in the North, hybridised solar-powered mini hydropower plants in the Middle Belt and Southwest, and the identification of wind energy potential in our coastal states.”

He stated, “Taking all of the above into consideration, Nigerians will soon start to experience the objective that led to the Act, which is improved power supply across the country, especially with the liberalisation of the sector.”
