Debo Adebayo, a well-known social activist and comedian better known by his stage name Mr. Macaroni, has criticised the National Assembly leadership for leading opulent lifestyles in the face of unimaginable hardship for Nigerians.
While Nigerians endured intolerable suffering, Macaroni bemoaned, their leaders were sending money to take vacations.
His response came after a video went viral online showing the Senate’s president, Godswill Akpabio, telling his colleagues during a plenary session that “a token has been sent to their various accounts to enable them to enjoy their holiday.”
Many Nigerians have expressed their disapproval of the move.
The social activist questioned why impoverished Nigerians must foot the bill for their politicians’ extravagant lifestyles in a post on his social media account on Wednesday.
The Senate President offered very expensive prayers to himself and his already blessed National Assembly colleagues in place of the inadequate blessings of nearly 200 million people.
“These are the leaders who have urged poor Nigerians to make sacrifices in order for the country to function. Therefore, our leaders are sending money to themselves to have vacations while Nigerians endure intolerable misery.
“If not for our leaders, then for whom should we make sacrifices?
Do our leaders realise that leadership is about selflessness, service, and sacrifice?
Why should Nigeria’s underprivileged populace foot the bill for the wealthy leaders’ lifestyles? Why??? No, this is not leadership.
