Nigerian Navy troops have arrested a suspect in possession of a weapon and ammunition during a security operation. The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance safety and curb illegal arms in the region.
The Nigerian Navy reported that personnel from Forward Operating Base BONNY, acting on reliable intelligence, discovered and arrested a suspect found with an AK-47 rifle, three magazines for the weapon, and thirty-six rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm ammunition.

As reported in the statement, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Forward Operating Base BONNY successfully identified and detained a suspect based on credible intelligence. The apprehended individual was found with an AK-47 rifle, three magazines for it, thirty-six rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm ammunition, three smoke grenade launchers, and one locally manufactured rifle within Eleme-Ifoko Community in Degema LGA of Rivers State.
“The suspect is presently being held in custody for investigation.”
