The Nigerian military announced that they killed 140 individuals suspected of being terrorists and armed kidnappers in recent operations targeting Boko Haram, the Daesh-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and other criminal groups last week.
Edward Buba, the spokesperson for Nigerian Defence Headquarters, stated that operations were conducted across various regions in Nigeria. He shared this update during the military’s weekly briefing on Thursday.

Throughout these operations, authorities detained an additional 135 suspects and successfully rescued 76 individuals who had been kidnapped for ransom.
For years, Nigeria has faced challenges due to attacks from armed groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, in addition to kidnappings by various criminal gangs. To address this issue, some states have implemented the death penalty for kidnapping; however, abductions continue to be prevalent. These armed organizations often target villages, schools, and travelers in the northern regions of the country while frequently demanding ransoms.
