The Nigerian military has issued a bold challenge to Asari Dokubo, stating that if he dares to engage in armed conflict, he will meet his death on the battlefield.

The Nigerian military has challenged former militant leader Asari Dokubo, inviting him to engage with the strength of their armed forces on the battlefield.

This statement was issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, on Thursday in response to Dokubo’s assertions that he had the capability to shoot down a military helicopter circling near his home.

Dokubo had earlier claimed that he had the ability to oppose the Nigerian military.

In a daring response, Maj Gen Buba challenged Dokubo to face the military in direct combat, assuring that if the ex-militant leader accepted this challenge, he would be quickly “neutralized.”

He also urged the appropriate security agencies to look into Dokubo’s claims.

Buba remarked, “It’s amusing to suggest that he could shoot down military helicopters, and I find it hard not to laugh at the idea. We live in a democracy and are professionals; we cannot react impulsively to someone’s statements without careful consideration—otherwise, we risk being labeled undemocratic.”

The military is not the sole security agency or department in the country. Other security forces also have a constitutional role to address these issues.

I assure you that he lacks the capability, but I will leave it to the appropriate security forces to manage the situation. Our mandate is to confront him on the battlefield and eliminate him. He should come face us in battle and see for himself whether we can respond or not.

Buba also emphasized that the military’s main priority continues to be fighting terrorists in various regions of the country.

“Our adversary is terrorism,” he declared. “Whether in the northwest or northeast, where they may be labeled as bandits, they’re all terrorists. We need to call them by their true name. Our forces have been making significant progress; as recent reports indicate, over 300 terrorist leaders have been neutralized in the past three quarters, greatly diminishing their combat capabilities.”

Buba highlighted that the military aims to diminish terrorist capabilities and confiscate weapons, a goal they have been consistently achieving.
