Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s public relations officer, has urged religious leaders to educate their people on the topic of blasphemy against prophets.
In a tweet on his verified account, he made this claim in response to the murder of Usman Buda Mai, a native of Sokoto State who was accused of demeaning the Prophet Muhammad.
There was unrest in some areas of the state after Usman was allegedly killed by beating on Sunday due to blasphemy.
Blasphemy is a crime according to the country’s constitution, but the legislation shouldn’t be applied by the general public, the Force spokesman claimed.
“Sokoto command has been on it,” he stated in his note. Await their report and further action. To bring about awareness on this matter, I believe we must turn to our priests.
“Although blasphemy is a crime under Nigerian law, its enforcement is not at the discretion of the general public.”
